Sunshine Through My Window - Wellbeing Hacks to Stay Energized

Have you ever felt down and out at work and that dose of sunlight as you walk out for some fresh air literally perks you up?

Sunlight can do magic to our general wellbeing.

In climates with little access to sunlight at certain times of the year, the risk of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) could even set in. Seasonal depression or “winter depression” is not prevalent in sunny Singapore, but understanding the benefits of daily sunlight, and ensuring that we get the right dose of it, definitely will help keep our energy and spirits up.

The benefits of daily sunlight include:

  • Production of Vitamin D which help support healthier bones, manage calcium levels, reduce inflammation and support the body’s immune system.

  • Feeling more energised due to the signals sent to the brain to be alert and awake.

  • Lower blood pressure levels from the dilation of blood vessels with the release of nitric oxide from sun exposure.

  • Better sleep by regulating circadian rhythm and the levels of serotonin and melatonin.

  • Production of beta-endorphines which are the hormones responsible for helping us reduce pain.

  • Promoting a sensation of wellbeing and general uplifting of mood.

  • Stress relief and elevated mental wellbeing.

So what are you waiting for? Try it yourself to believe in the wonderful wellbeing hack of good ole sunshine!
